Overview

A Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) Biopsy is a simple procedure that involves passing a thin needle through the skin to sample fluid or tissue from a cyst or solid mass. The sample of cellular material taken during an FNA is then sent to a clinical pathology laboratory for image analysis.

Techcyte’s Cytology Digital Manual Review solution enables hematopathologists to perform analyses of Fine Needle Aspirate biopsies remotely, without the need to be in the laboratory peering through a microscope. It also enables secondary consultation by colleagues, resulting in quicker turnaround times for labs and better working environment for technicians and pathologists.

The Techcyte Platform is CE marked in the EU. It is for investigational use only and not for diagnostic use in the US.

Challenge & Solution

Challenge & Solution

When fine needle aspirates are called for, with today’s methods, hospitals or clinics must extract the sample, then send it to a laboratory where the sample is prepped and inspected under microscope. This presents a major loss in time to obtain an analysis.

With Techcyte’s Cytology Digital Manual Review solution, samples can be scanned on-site using a compact web-enabled slide scanner. Samples are then automatically uploaded to Techcyte’s servers where they are immediately available for remote consultation by specialists. This reduces the time necessary for labs to receive samples, and improves the conditions for image analysis with on-screen imagery rather than through-the-lens microscope examination.

How it Works

How it Works

FNA samples are prepared on glass slides, coverslipped and scanned on-site using a compact slide scanner.

Scans are automatically uploaded to Techcyte’s servers where they are immediately available for remote consultation via a web-based interface.

The user interface is designed to enable specialists to rapidly scanned slides, select and comment on areas of interest, leave notes, share the sample with colleagues and render results very quickly.
